Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty is a surgical procedure that allows to reduce the volume of the breasts and improve their shape by correcting their fall. Large breasts can cause medical problems, such as back or neck pain, skin irritation, breathing problems, or bone deformities. In addition, an excessively large chest size can cause a lack of confidence, and make it difficult to exercise due to the discomfort caused by its movement.
This procedure reduces the size of the areola in addition to the volume of the breast and improves its shape. The final objective is to obtain for each patient a natural breast, smaller and more proportionate with the measurements of the rest of her body.
Details of the procedure
There are different techniques for breast reduction, but the most common is to make an incision that runs from the areola down and another that follows the lower edge of the breast fold. Through this approach, excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin are removed, and the nipple and areola are moved to their new position. Next, the skin on the sides of the breast and around the areola is adjusted, forming the new contour of the breast.
There are multiple techniques for performing this surgery, depending on the design that is applied for the resection of excess skin, and the way in which resection of the mammary gland is performed. We will individually assess your case to propose the best options in order to achieve a natural and harmonious result with your body.
