Obesity is considered the new epidemic of the XXI century. It is a chronic disease that can be due to multiple factors and is characterized by an excessive accumulation of fat. Obesity and overweight are the fifth risk factor for death in the world. Obesity is a metabolic alteration that accentuates and aggravates serious pathologies. It is related to other diseases such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and even metabolic syndrome. In this way, treating this pathology, the rest can be prevented or improved.

The body mass index is used to calculate a person’s weight. This will determine the types of obesity starting from the normal weight, going to the overweight and from a BMI higher than 30, the obesity of Grade 1 would begin, between 35 and 40 Grade 2, 40 and 45 Grade 3 and we would speak of extreme obesity with a BMI higher than 50. According to the distribution of fat, obesity can be: abdominal, peripheral or homogeneous. The causes can be genetic, dietary, mismatch, thermogenic defect, nervous, endocrine, medication or chromosomal obesity.

The treatment of obesity through environmental factors such as diet or sedentary lifestyle, requires a change in the patient’s lifestyle to maintain it in the time. For this, the best way to do it is through food education, allowing the patient to manage their own disease in a self-sufficient way and controlling how and when to introduce or eliminate certain foods. That is why this process of re-education will be adapted to the circumstances, tastes and needs of each person at all times. Running overweight can cause joint risks, but we can start with a 30-minute walk.
